World Health Day: Together for Health

Every year on April 7, the world celebrates World Health Day, a global reminder that health and wellbeing matter for everyone, everywhere. Led by the World Health Organization, this year’s theme is “Together for Health. Stand with Science.” It's a call for communities around the world to support evidence-based solutions that help people live healthier lives.

Science has helped improve children’s health in countless ways from vaccines and nutrition to mental health research and the benefits of movement. The campaign also highlights how collaboration across communities, countries, and fields can protect the health of people, animals, and the planet through a “One Health” approach.

At It’s Yoga Kids, we see this connection every day. Research continues to show that movement, breathing, and mindfulness support children’s physical health, emotional regulation, and resilience. When kids stretch, breathe deeply, laugh, and move together, they are practicing healthy habits that science tells us are essential for lifelong wellbeing.

This World Health Day, we celebrate the power of community, knowledge, and movement. Health grows when we support one another, listen to science, and create spaces where children can move, learn, and thrive.

Because when we nurture healthy children today, we help build a healthier world for tomorrow. 🌎🧘‍♀️

No Foolin’: Being Silly with Kids

April 1st is a day dedicated to laughter, surprises, and a little bit of harmless mischief. At It’s Yoga Kids, we love April Fools’ Day because it reminds us of something important: kids learn best when they are playful, curious, and joyful.

In yoga for kids, silliness isn’t always a distraction—it’s a tool. When children laugh, their bodies relax, their minds open, and learning becomes an adventure. A yoga class might suddenly turn into a jungle full of roaring lions, a garden of wiggly worms, or a room full of balancing flamingos. A downward dog will bark. A tree pose might sway in the wind. Sometimes the teacher even makes a “mistake” just to see who notices!

April Fools’ Day is the perfect reminder that movement and laughter belong together. Playful moments help children build confidence, connect with others, and feel safe expressing themselves. When kids laugh together, they also breathe deeply, move their bodies freely, and practice mindfulness without even realizing it.

Here are a few fun ways families can celebrate the day with a little yoga-inspired silliness:

  • Silly Pose Challenge: Take turns inventing the funniest yoga pose you can imagine.
  • Backward Yoga: Try doing a few poses while giving the instructions backward.
  • Animal Yoga Parade: Move through your house as different yoga animals—cats, cows, frogs, and dogs!

At the end of the day, April Fools’ reminds us that joy is an essential part of wellness. When children feel free to laugh, move, and be themselves, they are practicing some of the most important yoga skills of all.

So today, take a deep breath… make a funny face… and don’t forget to laugh.

Happy April Fools’ Day from It’s Yoga Kids! 🤸‍♀️✨

Happy Hearts: International Day of Happiness

March 20 is the International Day of Happiness, a global reminder that individual and community well-being are deeply connected. Happiness isn’t just a personal goal, it’s essential for healthy relationships, resilience, and growth.

Recent research shows that teens who feel connected and nurtured by their parents carry those benefits into adulthood. In fact, adolescents who ranked high on family connection were twice as likely to have strong social ties as adults. So yes, even if your teen rolls their eyes at you, showing up consistently matters more than you might realize.

At It’s Yoga Kids®, we see this every day. Kids yoga teaches emotional awareness, mindfulness, and compassion, skills that help children connect deeply with themselves and others. Through movement, breathwork, and cooperative games, children practice:

  • Noticing feelings in their bodies
  • Expressing themselves respectfully
  • Cultivating gratitude and joy
  • Building trust and connection with peers and adults

By combining yoga with intentional family time, we help children, and parents, strengthen the social and emotional foundations for lifelong happiness.

This International Day of Happiness, let’s remember: happiness grows when hearts are connected, relationships are nurtured, and kindness is practiced, on the mat and at home. 🌟

Spring Equinox: Growing Light, Growing Kids

Press PLAY to listen to this post.

March 20 marks the Spring Equinox, a beautiful celestial moment when the sun sits directly above the Equator and day and night are nearly equal in length. In the Northern Hemisphere, this day welcomes the first day of astronomical spring.

Light begins to last longer. Seeds begin to stir. The energy shifts from rest to renewal.

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have honored this turning point—celebrating blooming crops, new life, and the balance between darkness and light. It’s a reminder that growth is natural, cyclical, and worth celebrating.

At It’s Yoga Kids®, the Spring Equinox is a perfect teaching moment.

Teaching Balance from the Inside Out

When day and night are equal, we talk with kids about balance:

  • Balancing work and play
  • Balancing movement and rest
  • Balancing big emotions with calm breathing

In class, we explore balance poses to feel steady and strong. We practice breathwork to notice the space between inhale and exhale. We reflect on what we’re ready to grow this season—confidence, kindness, courage, or focus.

Planting Seeds of Intention

Spring is about possibility. Just like a seed needs sunlight, water, and patience, children need:

  • Encouragement
  • Healthy habits
  • Community
  • Time

We invite kids to set a simple spring intention. What do you want to grow? What small action can you take each day?

Honoring Nature and New Beginnings

Ancient traditions celebrated this season by honoring nature and ancestors. Today, we can continue that spirit by getting outside, noticing blossoms, feeling the breeze, and expressing gratitude for the light returning.

The Spring Equinox reminds us:
Growth doesn’t happen overnight.
Balance is dynamic.
Light always returns.

Here’s to longer days, blooming ideas, and kids growing stronger—inside and out. 🌸✨
